West Caicos ReserveThe Setting The Caribbean Isle of West Caicos is the most westerly and, thought by many to be, the most beautiful island in the Turks and Caicos archipelago. It is ringed by more than 10 miles of white, sandy beaches and coves, dramatic rock bluffs, rugged iron shore - limestone weathered into jagged rock - and covered in lush vegetation. The crystal clear waters surrounding the Isle of West Caicos have inviting, year-round surface temperatures ranging from 78 to 85 degrees and provide a widely varied marine environment, with sandy flats and banks dotted with coral heads to 3,000-foot drop-offs just offshore. The western shore faces the open sea and is home to the Caicos Wall, considered to be one of the finest diving sites in the world. The north shore, known for its three-mile beach, is sheltered by sand dunes and protected by a continuous coral reef. Beyond the reef are game fish, such as tuna, blue marlin, wahoo, snapper, billfish and barracuda. During January through March, humpback whales migrate through the deep Turks Island Passage on their way south to breeding grounds north of the Dominican Republic. These islands also support 175 resident and migrant species of birds, including flocks of greater Flamingoes, frigate birds, ospreys, brown pelicans, peregrine falcons and red-tailed hawks, to name only a few. Uninhabited, except for the creatures of nature and of the sea. Splendid silence, treasured isolation, astonishing beauty. This is the setting for the Isle of West Caicos - only 575 miles south of Miami and 39 miles southeast of the Bahamas - that awaits, luring and inviting discovery! The Future![]() The uninhabited and pristine Isle of West Caicos presents a rare opportunity to create a small and very exclusive island retreat, designed and developed to satisfy the highly refined expectations, needs and desires of those who will choose to vacation and live there. Only 10 percent of the island's approximately 6,500 acres are to be developed. The remaining land will be preserved as a nature preserve. This low- density development will ensure that the Isle of West Caicos will be accessible to those who seek its pleasures and, yet, remain idyllic. The island's carefully master-planned development will include the complete infrastructure, design concepts and ongoing services that will be required for a life of island luxury and convenience, while always enhancing the beauty of the natural environment. The centerpiece of the West Caicos development will be a new yacht basin, artfully designed to recreate the quaint ambience of a thriving 18th century harbor town. The harbor town will include a full- service marina, complete services for residents and guests and a small, five-star hotel. Beyond the harbor town, will be three separate, coastal residential settlements with two- to four-acre plantation estates. The Isle of West Caicos will be designed to be an escape into another time in this world, seemingly far-removed from the pace and pressures of our present-day world. And it will exist for a fortunate few who can afford and truly appreciate all it has to offer. The Plan: An Exclusive Residence![]() The three-phase, 10-year plan to develop the Isle of West Caicos includes converting an existing salt water salina on the northwest tip of the island into a deep-draught, eight-acre harbor, including a full-service marina to facilitate 120 boat slips with berths for yachts up to 150 feet. Depth of water will range from six to 12 feet, accommodating up to four mega-yachts at any given time. Marina facilities will provide gasoline and diesel fueling, a waste pump-out station, boat maintenance and service and it will be a designated port-of-entry for customs. Dock utilities will include 220-volt power, fresh water, telephone and cable television connections. A commercial dock will also serve as a port-of-entry for customs clearance and will be discreetly located away from view of the marina facilities. Harbor Town will be designed as an 18th century local and British Colonial-style, waterfront village It will be a lively commercial area, including a dock master's office, charter services, small stores, quaint offices, a restaurant and bar as well as cottages and the small five-star hotel with office/conference room accommodations for guests' use. Transportation around the island, to the beach and coastal residential areas will be by electric cart. The airport and airstrip will be another port-of-entry for customs clearance compliant with CAA standards. Phase One of the development will include completing a 3,000-foot runway with future expansion plans to increase the runway to a 6,000-foot capacity for jet service. Installation of an environmentally sensitive infrastructure required to service the three residential development areas of Logwood Point, Sunrise Beach and Due West Settlement will include roadways and cart paths, underground power, television and telephone connections as well as piped, potable water to each site.
